About New Zealand Healthcare 2009

A strong health care system is integral to improving the health of New Zealanders and tackling social inequalities in health. This two day event featured an industry conference focusing on government policy, initiatives and best practice for improved delivery of health care and positive outcomes.

A recent report by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development recommended that New Zealand should create a greater role for private health insurance and suggested more competition between public hospitals and private health institutions, separating ownership and management of hospitals and part privatisation of the ACC.

Recent surveys demonstrated that health is the number one issue members of the public want the government to deal with.

With growing demands on the health sector and a requirement for greater efficiency, Health care is very much on everyone’s agenda! This two day event included presentations on the key issues in the funding, development, management, and productive use of New Zealand’s health care resources.

It featured presentations from representatives of government and the healthcare industry including: government departments and agencies; District Health Boards; hospitals; GPs; private health providers; insurance providers; and industry associations. It will focus on the key issues currently facing the health sector, future government policy; current and future developments.
